Countless factors such as aging, stress, sun's effect on skin, smoking, air pollution, menopause and etc. cause skin wrinkles to increase by accelerating the production of free radicals. Aging is inevitable, but reducing and delaying its effects is in one's own power.
What is Botox?
Botox is a medical protein which is extracted from a bacteria called "Clostridium botulinum". This protein has actually been being used in treatments of eye and neurological diseases for a long time. For 10 years, it has also become available in cosmetics safely and successfully for use to eliminate the wrinkles.
With Botox, wrinkles and fine lines on the skin are eliminated temporarily. The results of Botox treatment are maintained for around 4 to 6 months. This period of time varies from person to person. The age and the condition of application area influence this period. Almost everyone except pregnant or breastfeeding women may have Botox treatment.
Botox treatment which takes rather a short time may be used in order to eliminate the crow's feet, lines on forehead and neck, frown lines, and to prevent sweating. Treatment lasts 10 to 15 minutes. There is no feeling of pain or ache after the treatment. Patients may get back to work as soon as the treatment is over. It is recommended not to go to sauna or training on the day of Botox treatment, and also the swimming pool should be avoided for 3 days. On the same day, the sleeping position should be taken into consideration and one shouldn't lie face downwards. The full effect of Botox may be recognized in 5 to 7 days.
Fine lines on forehead, eye region (crow's feet), glabella, nasal sidewall and lips, wrinkles around mouth, and wrinkles and skin bands on the neck arise as a result of contraction of mimic muscles on the face and the neck. Fine lines on glabella and nasal sidewalls, frown lines, and fine lines on the eye region and the forehead cause an aged and tired facial look, whereas fine lines around mouth cause a sad facial look.
Botox temporarily blocks the contraction of mimic muscles in these regions of the face and eliminates the tired, angry and sad look so that one has a younger and fresher facial look without wrinkles.
Botox treatment should be performed by experienced people who know the anatomy of facial muscles well. It is injected by a very thin needle into muscles causing wrinkles. It is not a painful operation, merely a dull burning and ache might be felt on that region. After the treatment, it is recommended not to massage that region in order not to cause the botox diffuse into surrounding muscles.
